We went to a very modern, but wonderful museum today. Just five of us girls and one of our professors took us to Centre Pompidou and we viewed the "Paris-Delhi-Bombay" exhibit. The exhibit was on the 6th floor so we had to take the elevator way up, I got some really great pictures of Paris since it was so high up! And the elevator is glassed in so it is completely visible from the outdoors. Anyways the actual display was filled with over 50 artists, they were either Indian or French. All of the artwork had to answer the question of "What is India today?" The artists explored numerous topics.. politics, urban development and the environment, religion, home, identity, and craft production. To be honest, a lot of the displays were very depressing, I was literally almost in tears viewing some of the rape exhibits, or homosexuality photos. They had actual testimonies from rape victims, it was pretty hard to read. They also had videos that were vulgar and honest, but it really got the point across of some of the struggles people deal with in India. The exhibit made me so thankful for lifestyle I am able to live, my family and my friends. BUT don't worry there were also some fun and happy artwork too!! Here are some pictures from the exhibit!
